Name: Severus Snape
Age: 32
Occupation: Potion master at Hogwarts, Order of the Phoenix member
Former house: Slytherin
Blood Status: Half-blood
Wand: Birch, unicorn hair
Picture:
Typical clothing: Long black robes are Severus’ preferred clothing – indeed, all he’s ever seen wearing.
Known family: Eileen Prince and Tobias Snape (parents)
Personality: A cold, spiteful individual, Snape is a very private man who holds long grudges and views emotional displays as a sign of shameful weakness – as a skilled occlumens, Snape is adept at concealing his own thoughts and feelings, although even he is not incapable of losing his temper, particularly when it comes to dealing with anyone who he links to James Potter. Snape possesses a keenly analytical mind and also a sadistic side, although ultimately, Snape is an immensely brave individual who is defined, though few know it, by his love for Lily Evans.
Brief history: Born to constantly-arguing parents and raised in the muggle home of Spinner’s End, Snape befriended Lily Evans, a muggle-born witch, before the pair of them started attending Hogwarts, and soon had even fallen deeply in love with her. Upon arriving at the school, Snape instantly became the enemy of James Potter, often becoming the victim of the older boy’s bullying, and soon began to adopt the typical views of the house he had been sorted into – Slytherin – which put considerable strain on his friendship with Lily. Upon leaving school, Snape joined the Death Eaters, however after overhearing a prophecy, which Voldemort took to refer to Lily’s son, Severus defected to the Order of the Phoenix, begging Dumbledore to protect Lily, and in exchange, became a double-agent for him - even after Lily’s death at the Dark Lord’s hands, when Dumbledore urged him to ensure Harry's safety out of respect for Lily's memory.
Initially applying for the post of Defence Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts after the war’s end, Snape was denied the position by Dumbledore and instead, granted the job of Potions Master. Since Voldemort’s return, Snape has returned to his role as a double-agent in the Death Eaters for Dumbledore.
Sample: Professor Severus Snape was in a particularly bad temper as he strode the castle’s corridors and stairways between Dumbledore’s office and his own, the black robes billowing behind him giving the potion master a silhouette that resembled nothing so much as an overgrown bat, and venting his frustrations on any student who happened to be in his path.
“Potter, all students are supposed to be in their common rooms in five minutes. Since you obviously won’t have reached it by then, five points from Gryffindor. Miss Weasley, this does not concern you. Ten points.” Watching a red-faced Ginny scurry in the same direction Potter had gone in did little to improve Snape’s mood.
“Longbottom, as if being an abysmal failure in potions wasn’t enough, you are obstructing the corridor – Miss Granger, keep your mouth closed for once – ten more points from Gryffindor.” Brushing past a smirking Malfoy, who he hardly noticed for once, Snape didn’t let either his walking or his flow of criticisms of any other Gryffindors he stumbled across slow until he had reached his familiar office in the dungeons and shut the door behind him.
The thought of the werewolf returning to the school… Snape glowered at the various jars of potion ingredients through his curtain of greasy black hair as though it was one of them that had voiced the hated news. Dumbledore bringing the Order in to defend the school – while he didn’t exactly like it – Snape could understand, but letting Lupin be among them… not only would a fully-grown werewolf be more of a threat to everyone around him than a help, but Severus had other reasons for his anger. As if Potter’s arrogance wasn’t bad enough now, it could only increase tenfold by hearing stories of his swine of a father from one of Potter senior’s best friends.
