Name: Susan Bones
Age: 12
OC or Canon: Canon
Year in Hogwarts: 2nd
House: Hufflepuff
Blood Status: Half-blood
Wand: Ash, dragon heartstring, 13”
Picture: (on the left)
Uniform: Generally seems to make an effort to wear it properly, no variations to note.
Family background: Born about a year before the end of the first Wizarding war, only shortly prior to the murder of her uncle Edgar and his family, the first year of Susan’s life – although she hardly remembers it – was spent on the move, her parents constantly afraid that after those deaths, and those of Susan’s paternal grandparents at Voldemort’s hands, they would be next (the Bones family was a powerful and respected one that Voldemort wanted to do away with), and only the defeat of the Dark Wizard at the baby Harry Potter’s hands convinced the family that they were safe enough to settle again. Like most young witches, Susan was home-schooled for the early years of her life as insurance against any unintentional usage of magic on her part. Most of Susan’s home education was given her by her aunt Amelia when she wasn’t working at the Ministry of Magic, leading to the close bond Susan feels to her aunt.
Personality: While not being an especially shy girl, it could certainly be noted that Susan does possess a tendency to keep herself to herself. She can make friends without much difficult, but it seems more that she doesn’t actually want to, preferring only to get particularly close to only a small number of people. Relating to this, she also doesn’t much care for being the centre of attention in general, and particularly not in relation to the rest of her family. Part of this no doubt stems from a feeling that she’s expected to live up to her aunt’s reputation. As a respected witch, Amelia Bones casts a long shadow, which Susan feels as though she isn’t up to filling, so she doesn’t want to be measured against her. Susan also has a tendency not to always be as focussed as she should in classes, whether that’s due to having a crush on her DADA teacher, or just simple stress, with the result being that she doesn’t always do as well in school as she probably should.
Sample: To say that Susan wasn't looking forward to Defense Against the Dark Arts that year would be an understatement. It had quickly become her least-favourite subject last year, if only for her impatience with the stammering and ridiculous nervousness of Professor Quirrell, and despite his arrest at the end of term, the Hufflepuff girl hardly expected this year's professor to be any better. Still, her new friend Hermione, for some reason, seemed excited to sit near the front, and since Hannah and Ernie were already sitting together, Susan found herself seated near the front beside the Gryffindor girl, trying not to dread meeting their new teacher.
At the sound of the office door opening, Susan looked up - and was sure she felt her heart almost stop as her celebrity crush entered the room. Gilderoy Lockheart was almost twice as dashing in reality as on his book covers, and Susan was all at once very glad she'd chosen to sit with Hermione. A wistful sigh could just be heard slipping from her throat as the young Hufflepuff rested her chin on one hand, not really hearing much of anything Lockheart said as she just watched the new professor, seeming to be lost in a bit of a daydream.
